Postnatal care - Bleeding
POSTNATAL DISCOMFORTS - Bleeding
After birth, you lose a lot of blood and discharge through the vagina. This bloody discharge is called lochia and you may continue to bleed for 2-6 weeks after delivery.
The discharge is bloody red and heavy at first and then gradually subsides to a brownish discharge.
You must only use sanitary towels (super absorbent ones initially) to catch the flow. Tampons should never be used because of the risk of infection.
